Mission accomplished! I wasn't sure if Derek and I would be strong enough to get the job done, but we did. When Bostyn was younger, she only used her binky to sleep or while she was in the car. After she turned one, she became more and more emotionally attached to it. She started wanting it ALL THE TIME. To make matters worse, she used the Soothie binky which is the same as sucking a thumb so her teeth grew in a little funny and she was getting an overbite. It was time...
We always use Bostyn's binky as leverage whenever she gives us trouble at bedtime. On August 19th, ( I note this because it is exactly 1 month before her 2nd birthday- the goal date) Bostyn did just that, gave us trouble. She wanted to go to sleep in our bed so we threatened to throw her binky in the trash if she didn't stay on her bed and go to sleep. She handed over her binky, told us to put it in the trash, and climbed in our bed. Not her typical response and not the one we were looking for. Derek was frustrated and I said, "This could be our opportunity to get rid of that thing for good!". So we told her, "Fine, no more binky." She slept in our bed that night and never asked for the binky. It was now or never. Over the next few days, we rode out the fits and long nights. Whenever she asked for her binky, we just reminded her she didn't need it because she had 2 blankies. We put the emphasis on 2 and said it like she was really lucky. That seemed to do the trick. The hardest part for Bostyn was learning how to fall asleep without it. She had become so dependent on it for getting herself to relax and wind down. For nearly a solid week, it took Bostyn up to 2 hours to fall asleep at night. She would read books and rummage through the toys in her closet all in the dark. Once the week was over, we were home free!
It wasn't as bad as we expected, but not what I'd call fun either. Definitely more challenging for us than her. We should have done it sooner. Her teeth look better already. I can assure you we will be taking Cannon's MAM away before he turns 1. I want to break him from it before he gets so attached.
Now on to Potty Training...

Congrats on getting rid of the Bikny! I too am not looking forward to potty training!
my kids never liked the bikny thank goodness so the only thing we had to get rid of was the bottle which wasn't hard at all!
potty training is a long process, but once they get it, it's the best thing ever. alexis now goes all by herself without even telling me, it's so awesome not to have to change any more diapers! good luck!
Whoo hoo! You did it! Way to go!
I think im glad Jeremiah never took a binkie I really wanted him too and that was hard.
